Saint Xavier University, a Catholic institution founded and inspired by the Sisters of Mercy, educates men and women to search for truth, think critically, communicate effectively, and serve wisely and compassionately in support of human dignity and the common good.  It is the first Mercy institution of higher learning in the United States and Chicago's oldest Catholic University.

In 2012 U.S. News & World Report ranked Saint Xavier among the top 25 percent of comprehensive universities in the Midwest and in the top six in Illinois; and in 2014, it earned the No. 1 spot as the “Best Online Graduate Nursing Program”.

The University offers 40 undergraduate majors and more than 40 graduate options in arts and sciences, business, education and nursing; and a variety of programs in professional studies.  Xavier has one of the five largest schools of nursing in Illinois; and at the graduate level, it is the second largest provider of teachers in Illinois. Its student population is ranked among the five most diverse among public and private colleges/universities in the Midwest.
